Bill of Rights Day
The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, was ratified on December 15, 1791. This is known as Bill of Rights Day. Presidents of the United States have issued Proclamations for Bill of Rights Day. I have attached Proclamations from President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President Donald J. Trump, and President Barack Obama.
Why celebrate and honor the ratification of the Bill of Rights by the states in 1791?
1) Our Founding Fathers wanted to list the major inalienable rights that Americans have as a bulwark against government usurping these rights.
2) If you don’t know your rights you don’t have any rights. How can you preserve, protect, and defend rights that you do not know?
3) Fundamental rights such as freedom of region, speech, the press, peaceably assemble, no unreasonable searches and seizes, no warrants without probable cause, due process of law, trial by jury, no cruel and unusual punishment, no excessive fines or bail, and others are spelled out in the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights.
4) To make sure that rights that were not delineated in the Bill of Rights should not be infringed they added the 9th Amendment: The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
5) Massive public education is needed to insure that ‘We the People’ know and understand our rights and will do whatever it takes to project them.
6) I have asked all 50 state Governors to videotape a message to their constituents asking them to read, study, and learn the contents of the Bill of Rights and then to read and discuss these rights with family, friends, co-workers, and others in their network. Governor Gretchen Whitmer (MI) is the first Governor to videotape such a message. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser and OHIO Secretary of State Frank LaRose also submitted a video.
7) Two Presidents have issued Proclamations for Bill of Rights Day, December 15th. This is the day in 1791 that the states ratified the Bill of Rights and these amendments were added to the US Constitution for all time. They have never been amended.
8) Please encourage people that you know to read, study and learn the contents of the Bill of Rights, and to read and discuss these rights with family, friends, co-workers, and anyone else in their network.
